Twin Disc MGX-6620A & Arneson ASD14 Supplied for Safehaven Marine’s T-2000 Voyager

MIT recently supplied key propulsion equipment for Safehaven Marine’s second T-2000 Voyager, the A.H.R.S. This 70ft luxury motor yacht was built in Ireland for high-speed performance, control, and offshore capability.

The vessel uses twin MAN V12 engines rated at 2,000hp each, paired with Twin Disc MGX-6620A marine transmissions, Twin Disc EC600 electronic controls and Arneson ASD14 surface drives with Rolla propellers.

During sea trials, A.H.R.S. reached a top speed of 57 knots, or about 105 km/h.

The Challenge

Safehaven Marine, a key MIT customer, needed a driveline and propulsion package to handle the increased output of the upgraded 2,000hp MAN V12 engines on their second T-2000 Voyager.

The propulsion system had to deliver high-speed performance along with reliable, responsive handling and control.

As a 70ft luxury motor yacht with demanding performance targets, the equipment needed to support high horsepower and precise control.

The Solution

MIT supplied Twin Disc MGX-6620A marine transmissions, Twin Disc EC600 electronic controls and Arneson ASD14 surface drives for the project.

Additionally, MIT selected the Twin Disc MGX-6620A transmission for its superior power-to-weight ratio and durability, allowing it to handle the increased engine output of the second T-2000 Voyager. This was complemented by the  Twin Disc EC600 control system that is specifically designed to work with Twin Disc’s MGX gears, ensuring that the quickshift technology of the transmissions is delivered as smoothly and responsively through its electronic control as possible for precise handling and manoeuvrability.

Arneson ASD14 surface drives were chosen to maximise high-speed performance and efficiency, and were run with Rolla propellers. This package enabled the vessel to reach 57 knots during sea trials.

Rolla propellers were specified through the Twin Disc/Rolla network. As the official Rolla supplier, MIT supported this element, while Rolla handled propeller calculations and direct supply.

Equipment Supplied by MIT

MIT supplied the following propulsion equipment:

  • Twin Disc MGX-6620A marine transmissions
  • Twin Disc EC600 electronic controls
  • Arneson ASD14 surface drives

Rolla propellers were also used, specified by Rolla as part of the Twin Disc/Rolla propulsion package.

The Result

The completed T-2000 Voyager A.H.R.S. reached a maximum speed of 57 knots during sea trials.

For a 70ft luxury motor yacht, this result shows the effectiveness of the hull design, hydrofoil support, high-output MAN engines, and surface-drive propulsion package.

The combination of Twin Disc marine transmissions, EC600 electronic controls, Arneson surface drives, and Rolla propellers delivered the speed, manoeuvrability, and power handling needed for this high-performance application.

Continuing Support Across the T-2000 Voyager Platform

MIT has supported Safehaven Marine across multiple T-2000 Voyager builds.

The first vessel was fitted with Twin Disc MGX-5146A marine transmissions and EC600 controls. For the second vessel, A.H.R.S., the increased engine power required a larger Twin Disc MGX-6620A transmission package, along with Arneson ASD14 surface drives.

A third T-2000 Voyager is now in build and will feature Twin Disc MGX-5146A transmissions, EC600 controls, and Arneson ASD14 surface drives.

This ongoing work shows MIT’s ability to support vessel builders by providing proven marine propulsion equipment for a range of power requirements and vessel configurations.
